Holly Lodge Reviews

Maureen
It was a lovely place and a bottle of champagne on arrival much appreciated the place was lovely and clean although the baking dishes could do with a good clean which was a shame it let it down , beautiful garden ,also it needed some minor repairs which didn't bother us as long as the owners realised they were there before we arrived. very close to high street and beach which has several shell fish along the sea front . all in all its a fantastic place and accommodation apart from minor details is perfect and would certainly go back there so thank you for a lovely little break .
Sheila
Fantastic house for a family get together. Lovely big rooms for eating and sitting and the outdoor space was really great too. Fabulous garden. We all really enjoyed ourselves.
Loved our second stay here and would absolutely return again. Loved that you have updated the family bathroom, great improvement. We love Holly Lodge, so central and the property is perfect for all ages. It has everything you would need for a large group and to cook for a large groupfamily also.
Rachel
Beautiful & spacious house in great location just a short stroll from Aldeburgh high street & beach. Perfect accommodation for groups of friends or extended family, with children being very well catered for. The stairs are narrrow and steep with turns so could be a challenge for people with restricted mobility, however there is a ground floor bedroom & ground floor bathroom with walk in shower. The property is well appointed with a very well equipped kitchen. The modern bathrooms have great showers, huge fluffy towels and lovely toiletries. The beds were quite firm but we all slept really well. The garden is beautiful and well maintained. We had a slight issue on arrival so messaged the housekeeper who responded immediately. As a group of 7 friends, we had a fabulous 4 night stay and would not hesitate to recommend this property or come back ourselves.
Elaine
This is a fabulous house for a big family group holiday. There are ensuites with most of the bedrooms and lots of room for everyone to enjoy the space. A very attractive large safe enclosed garden for dogs and children. The kitchen was so well equipped for a large group and there were cupboards full of childrens toys and books should you want them. Also a very short walk to the High street in Aldeburgh and the beach. We were so impressed we have already booked for next year. Well deserved 5 stars!
Large spacious property, well equipped with very comfy beds. Beautiful shower and bathrooms! Great location, quiet and plenty of space for parking. Perfect for a large family or friends holiday. Great garden but sadly being January we didn't use it very much. Be great in the warmer months. Thank you for the bottle of wine and crisps, lovely welcome gift. The only issue we had was with the heating and hot water, both sorted by the owner after a couple of days. Somewhat stressful with a 6 month old for 2 of the nights. Couple of suggestions to further enhance this lovely property would be to add some soft furnishings rugs, painting a number of areas flaking paint, scratches etc... Also, the Nest ideally needs to be moved to the hallway to balance the heat throughout the house. Thank you for a wonderful family holiday in Aldeburgh.
Holly Lodge was absolutely perfect for us and our guests. The property felt very homely, had oodles of space and the bedrooms were perfect insofar as there were 4 spacious doubles we didnt use the twin but that was lovely as well. The garden was perfect as well as it was large and enclosed for our dog. Would definitely recommend it and would be happy to return when we need a large property again
Annette
A wonderful house in Aldeburgh for a large family or group of friends to stay. It had everything we needed. Warm, spacious and comfortable. Great location within walking distance of all shops, pubs, restaurants and of course, the beach!

A lovely spacious property although maybe a little tired in places Garden was lovely and well maintained The kitchen and sitting area was perfect Although the downstairs bedroom was very small and the snug seemed a waste of a room and would have been better as a larger downstairs bedroom All the beds were comfortable and a small problem with the configuration of the beds was sorted out promptly with one phone call Would recommend as location was excellent
An amazing property with lots of little touches that just made it even better, the owners have thought of everything and more. Well stocked in the kitchen had everything you needed, we did a full Sunday lunch for 10 with no issues. We absolutely loved both Holly Lodge and Aldeburgh. One small point, the twin room is a little less catered for than the other rooms particularly if adults are using it. The shower in its bathroom is less than adequate and we tended to wait and use the other rooms which had great showers. There is also no mirror above the socket in the room to dry your hair which is easily fixable. It would be fabulous to have a full length mirror somewhere too. We loved it though, had a fabulous stay and would love to come back.
Lovely clean house, perfect for a family break by the sea. Only disappointments being no real welcome essentials, thanks for the bubbly but bread and milk would have been nice. Also just 3 small logs for the log burner seems very mean! Those things meant after a 6 hour drive on a Friday pm we had to go straight back out to stock up. Otherwise a fab stay.

Its our second time at Holly Lodge. We love the space it offers and the configuration of the rooms is perfect. Very little to fault. Its a big house and only thing that needs improving is the standard temperature the house is set to. We were unable to adjust it. It was quite cold whilst we were there and just added an extra layer. Other than that we would return in a heartbeat!
Aisling
We had a fantastic stay at Holly Lodge. Everything was absolutely perfect. We had plenty of space to park our two cars. Its a very peaceful street and just a couple of minutes walk into the centre of Aldeburgh. Wed love to come back again. We didnt have children with us but it looked great for families with the stairgate, toys and big garden with a play house.
Lorraine
Great property, well appointed and in a great position as was quick to walk to beach and town centre. Although 5 double rooms parking is tight for 3 cars but can park on the road as no restrictions and always spaces. We managed to lock ourselves out totally our fault but the problem was soon resolved and would like to compliment the Sykes handler who dealt with call .
We had a great stay at Holly Lodge. It offered really good accommodation for our large multi generational family. The ground floor is a lovely, open area with somewhere for little ones to play whilst the adults can keep an eye on them. Gardens lovely too. Kitchen works well. The fridge is, frankly, too small for a group of 10. A second drinks fridge would be a real bonus. Nice china and good supply of glasses. Really appreciated being left dishwasher tablets and some washing machine sachets too. The en suite bathrooms are small, no where to put anything, but are functional. The main bathroom is huge but has a tiny shower! The housekeepers need to take a bit more care and to use a cobweb brush! Its a lovely house and we had a great stay. Thank you!
Francine
Lovely property with a accurate right up. Plenty of car parking spaces on the road outside and you could probably get four cars on the Holly Lodges drive. Our party of five couples had a lovely time.
The welcome mat inside the front door is a trip hazard with a stray strand sticking out. Other than this point, very happy with the property particularly with the generous provision of books, play house & toys which our grandsons loved.
We love this house, this was our second visit and we were not disappointed, I am sure we will be back again. We have a family holiday once a year, the youngest member being 30 & the oldest 79, Holly Lodge works so well for us with a downstairs bedroom & bathroom for my mother. 2 hip replacements don't make stairs easy. For anyone there on a Monday night, it is worth joining in the quiz at the Old Generator Station, just a 1 per person for a team of 6. We had steak from the butchers in the main street, a lovely cod loin from one of the fish stalls and a holiday by the sea wouldn't be complete without fish & chips.
Was sooooooooooooo lovely. Perfect setting perfect house. Hade everything you needed and more
This is not a five star property as listed. Multiple issues at the property. 1. Wet sofas and in poor condition 2. Dog hairs on cushions and bean bags 3. Cafetire not cleaned out and rusty lid 4. General areas of long term in ground dirt 5. Broken and chipped kitchen equipment 6. Loose toilet seat I contacted the housekeeper within 15 minutes of arrival at the property. She contacted me back after speaking to the owner. She said that no one else had complained and suggested we cover the wet sofas with blankets from the beds and also leave the heating on full all night. The wet sofa cushions did not dry out until the Saturday afternoon. This impacted our enjoyment of our weekend. We are a group of 7 ladies that like to sit round together I always pick a property for a good communal areas with enough sofa room for us all Neither the housekeeper or the owner contacted me during the weekend or since to check to see if we had resolved the issues. I contacted Best of Suffolk on return from the weekend. Sent them multiple photos and had numerous correspondence with them. I gave them ample opportunity to sort out some form of compensation for the issues we had and the impact on our weekend. I have drawn a blank. Absolutely no compensation offered whatsoever and not even a written apology. Best of Suffolk say there is nothing they can do about it. Needless to say, I will not be booking with them again and would not recommend them. I have booked numerous self catering properties over the last 20 years and this is the first ever time Ive had cause to complain.

We had such a wonderful weekend in Holly Lodge Cottage. It was lovely and homely and so tastefully decorated that we felt really comfortable as soon as we walked through the door. It was very cosy and warm with plenty of hot water. It was spotlessly clean throughout and the linen and towels were lovely. The kitchen was so well equipped and it was great to have sharp knives which is a rarity in hired accommodation. We did not have to purchase any extras like dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, bin bags etc. we just wish other owners were so thoughtful. The house is in a fantastic location, just minutes away from the high street and beach. We only have positive feedback for this property and would have no hesitation in staying here again or recommending to friends. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home.
We had a great week in this terrific house. Everything is of the highest standard decor, furnishings, appliances. The location is perfect for the lovely high street, the sea and the marches. We couldnt fault it and the huge ordnance survey map on the wall in the hall is absolute genius!
We had an absolutely fabulous weekend in this beautiful and well equipped cottage, Was even better than the description on the website and we couldnt have asked for anything more.
Gillian
A lovely house in a great position in the beautiful village of Aldeburgh. We appreciated the baby toys, stair gates and cots for our family party. A fire guard might be a good idea. The downstairs is spacious and very suitable for a family gathering. However we did feel it was a bit tight to provide only 3 or 4 logs for the fire. There was a very bare minimum of loo rolls and no toiletries other than hand soap empty in one bathroom. This is not what we have found to be the practice with other rentals and was just a bit disappointing.
Hilary
We have stayed at Holly Lodge many times and always enjoy our time there, it it is ideal for large parties, plenty of space and easy parking.
Caireen
Lovely property, v thoughtful details and a lovely welcome. Beautifully decorated and the garden was stunning wish we could have spent more time there! Just one small minor bit of feedback it would have been lovely to have had some coffee pods to use with the machine that was provided, but that's a really minor complaint! Everything else was fabulous and I'd definitely recommend. Thanks so much.
Katherine
I hired Holly Lodge for a family get together to celebrate my 60th birthday. We were all very impressed as soon as we walked in the door. I have a very big family and this is the ideal property for a large gathering. This house is just lovely. Beautifully decorated, well maintained & spotlessly clean. The kitchen is fully equipped for everything & everyone. We had a full house Friday through Monday, with extra visitors for the day on Sunday. Even with 23 people believe it or not, the whole family couldn't make it! we never felt crowded, it's so spacious & well laid out. The games from the library provided so much fun & laughter and the TV wasn't turned on once! Staying at Holly Lodge was the cherry on the cake making this truly a birthday to remember.
Holly Lodge is a family home and is therefore well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Everything was spotless and well maintained. Our only gripe is the too small recycling bin. The outdoor bin was overflowing when we arrived and resulted in us taking recycling home with us. For a property sleeping up to 10 a larger bin is necessary .
Stephen
Its a lovely house in a great location. Really enjoyed our stay there .
Holly Lodge was perfect for our family, clean well equipped, beautiful house and garden. 5 minutes walk to the beach and shops and cafes. We really enjoyed our weekend in Alderburgh.
A very enjoyable break in a spacious, comfortable and well equipped property. Just two minor niggles the suction pads on the blackout blind have lost most of their adhesive power and the blinds in the downstairs bedroom, on the right hand side has you face the window, require maintenance.
A group of us stayed here on the Coronation weekend and it was fabulous! more than we expected when we arrived. A lovely welcome gift, lots of information on the house and the local area, toys books and games for the children, a well stocked kitchen and a beautiful garden area. Which our dog enjoyed as much as we all did on the sunny days. The rooms were perfect for our group. Maybe just one comment would be to add curtains in the down stairs bedroom. Communication between Owners was brilliant when we needed something, We have already talked about returning and would recommend to friends.
Elizabeth
We loved our stay at Holly Lodge. A perfect house for a multigenerational family celebration. We appreciated all the space, and particularly having a bathroom for each bedroom as we had the teenagers in tow!. The master bedroom suite was spectacular and even nicer bigger than in the photos. We could have done with a spare bin bag for the kitchen, and just a few extra plates to use for serving etc. We found just having 10 of each size was not quite enough when there were 10 of us staying. Also, we couldnt really understand why there were two TVs in one room wed have made more use of the library room if the second TV was in there, for the kids to hang out. But these are really only minor niggles and we would definitely like to return another time.
Felt the property could have been cleaner. The clothes aired needs replacing as it had rust spots on the bars which were not realised. All the pale clothes are now stained with rust spots from this which have not come out. Not happy about this!
Allison
Great house for family birthday. Lots of space and well laid out. Very clean and comfortable. It was well situated for the town and beach. Would definitely recommend
This house offered everything! ! We went as a family for a 30th celebration but it would be great for friends or couples!
Hilary
This is our second stay at Holly Lodge, a great place to stay with a group of friends. Very comforable and spacious accommodation.
