The White House with Studio Reviews

Rachel
Wonderful property! Very homely, perfect for a family of 8 to stay in. Everything we needed & more. The only issue was the stairs but it is an old property . Could be tricky for some people,
Carwyn
On arrival we were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the property. The main house had cobwebs and dust especially around the windowsills, but the studio room had clearly not been cleaned properly for some time, as there were many desiccated woodlice and spiders on the floor and on the bedsheets. The aga was also unlit when we arrived, and it would have been difficult to cook for six people without it, we had to contact housekeeping to get someone out to light it. These issues were resolved the same day they were reported, but they should not have been issues in the first place. The ceilings are very low, lower than they appear in the pictures, and the stairs and floors are very uneven, with lots of narrow spaces. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone with mobility issues or anyone on the larger side. A lot of the cushionspillows also contained feathers, something to be aware of for anyone with allergies. The property has a lot of character and there was plenty of room for the six of us who stayed there. The location is good, with easy road links and plenty of choices for eating out, Momiji japanese restaurant in Harleston was amazing. The kitchen was well equipped, although again cleanliness of some items was an issue. It was an interesting and quirky property, but the maintenance and cleaning really let it down for us unfortunately.
We really enjoyed staying at the White Pink? House. Lovely old building that has been modernised very well. Everything worked really well and I think it is the first time we have had decent broadband in NorfolkSuffolk. Two very minor things the black bin was completely full when we got there and emptied on the final day, which made it difficult to dispose of more rubbish. And please include extra bin liners and toilet rolls under the sink. Otherwise a perfect stay.
Fantastic property for a large family we think it was probably our best holiday experience to date so thank you.
We were three generations and a dog on holiday together and one of the young people has extra needs. The White House was perfect as it had the garden room where people could escape when situations became chaotic. The Studio was just right for our less mobile members although the path throiugh the garden was uneven and there was nothing close enough to hang on to when using the step. This is a very characterful cottage and it is lovely to see the character maintained. One issue for the less mobile was the different levels between each of the rooms. it would have been helpful to have the steps highlighted at the edge with tape or similair as a reminder. The stairs in the cottage are as described and not suitable for the less mobile. All the beds and bedding were of good quality. The cottage was beautifully warm and cosy and we made great use of the log burner! We bought logs and kindling with us as the description said that they were not provided but there was a basket of logs by the fire and a log store outside and kindling at the end of the drive! The outside space was excellent with lots of different seating and eating areas which we made use of as the weather was unexpectedly hot!! Plenty of off road parking at the front of the cottage. The location is great for trips out and we visited Southwold, Gorleston and Norwich, all less that an hour to drive and we had a meal at The Black Swan, a pub with character, good service and friendly staff. The only real problem we had was when we were driving home at the end of the hoiliday and we realised we had left behind an expensive ukulele! We are still waiting to hear if it has been located before other guests arrive and think it is part of the house. Oh and we took away with us a straw hat which we thoiugfht belonged to one of our party but realised when we unpacked the cars that we now had two hats! About to post that back to the booking agent! We all loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone looking for some character, comfort and space with all modern ameneties that you could want.
Although the stairs to both levels are incredibly steep and it does state in the description they are! the house was very well equipped with just about anything you would need . We did have a problem with the washing machine which leaked all over the floor
Had a lovely family stay but must mention the very steep stairs to first floor and laddertype steps up to loft bedrooms. These would not be suitable for any older restricted mobilitytaller guests we had to put kids in attic rooms as two of our male guests are over 6ft. Overall, though lovely house well equipped with everything you might need, just felt more attention could be given to cobweb cleaning as they were everywhere and garden could do with a go over
Teresa
We had a lovely stay at The White House and would be happy to stay here again. Yes, the stairs are steep but there's a gate at the top so little ones are safe. We loved the property generally and there is everything you need in the way of appliances, crockery and so on. I slept in The Studio where the bed was very comfortable and fitted with quality white Egyptian cotton sheets. Yes there were spiders but there's also a TV, fridge, coffee maker and kettle so you can have a morning cuppa without trekking to the house. The new garden fence means the main garden is secure but be aware that dogs can escape around either side of the house and out of the front drive. In addition to the recommended eateries in the welcome book, the Buck, next to the aviation museum, is worth a visit and not far away.
We had a wonderful weekend The White House with Studio. ....we made some lovely memories & the house was so accommodating & quaint....we walked to the village pub & everyone was so friendly..... It's in great location......on Saturday we went into Southwold where I have been going for nearly 70 years.....on Sunday went into Lowestoft & Monday we went into Beccles & then to Southwold again...... Thank you so much.....we had such a lovely time.... Your Gratefully, Lynn x
The house is called the White House but it is actually pink this might be something to mention in the description, to alleviate confusion when locating the property. The house was very old and oozed charm. It is not a location if you have mobility issues as the stairs are vertical and the second set is more of a ladder leading to the attic rooms. We were very happy at the location as the oldest couple, we chose the 'studio' room in the garden, which suited us perfectly. It was a good location to use as a base and we visited lots of the local towns, which were very pretty BungayBeccles particularly.

We were extremely dissappointed on arrival with the property. The general level of cleanliness such as cobwebs, spiders and flies was not a welcoming sight. The garden was poorly maintained with dog poo left from previous residents but most importantly for a dog friendly listing, the garden was open in places on to a busy road. As we had bought our dog with us, this was a real concern. Although the Kitchen was well equiped, crockery was dirty and had to be washed before it could be used. The stair case up to the rooms on the top floor was a joke. No handrails and most likely illegal due to lack of headroom, this was not pictured or described in the listing details and made access for the grandparents in our group to this floor impossible. Exposed wiring throughout the property and lack of any fire alarms was a real cause for concern especially for our group with young children and pets. We would not book this property again and feel it was very over priced for the facilities and the state of upkeep of the property.
The photos need updating, as does the entire property. Most things on the wall were falling off and the bed leg in the double room came away half way through the night. Equally the stairs at the property are not described accurately at all! The cottage is a great place just desperately needs some tlc. Sykes cottage customer service is atrocious.
